Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What type of financing is available?

A:  Most new Volkswagens and Pre-Loved Vehicles with less than 70,000 miles will qualify for financing up to 72 months.  Leasing is available on all new and select used Volkswagens from 24 to 48 months.  East Coast Volkswagen finances through a variety of lenders, allowing our customers the ability to choose what best suits their needs.

Q: How are trade-in values determined?

A:  All trade-ins are evaluated by an actual cash value (ACV).  When the staff at East Coast Volkswagen evaluates a trade the goal is to put a value on the vehicle that it will sell for at auction less any costs associated with the sale (transportation, fees).

Trading a vehicle and losing money when selling it is not a good business decision.  On the flip side, appraising vehicles below market value will lead to lost sales for the dealership due to competition in the market.  The goal at East Coast Volkswagen is to break even on the wholesale of trade-ins.  This allows us to make every transaction that makes sense and offer fair values to our customers.

All trades are adjusted based on mechanical condition, paint and body condition, and interior appearance.  We use online databases of current vehicle sales history as well as vehicle value guides to determine current actual cash value.  Late model trade-ins with low miles may be appraised higher than market value based on resale demand on the lot, condition and reconditioning needs.

Q:  Should I buy or lease?

A:  Leasing allows you to purchase a new vehicle for the same or lower payment for a short term rather than financing for 72 months.  This is a good way to get a more expensive vehicle with minimum cash outlay and lower payments.  The risks of having negative equity and costly repairs are also diminished.

If you like to purchase a new vehicle every 2 to 4 years and/or drive 15,000 miles per year or less then you should strongly consider leasing your new VW.

If you drive more than 18,000 miles per year and/or like to keep your vehicles for 5 years or more than traditional financing is probably your best bet.

Q:  Should I consider purchasing an extended warranty?

A:  Yes.  The average driver will run out of the Basic 4-year/50,000 mile Volkswagen warranty in 40 months.  With the average loan term of 64 months, that leaves 2 years of ownership with no warranty coverage.  For a small amount each month the basic warranty can be extended up to 100,000 miles, eliminating the added expense of costly repairs down the road.  The extended warranty can be cancelled if the vehicle is sold and the unused portion is then refunded.  This is an inexpensive way to guard against unexpected repair bills.
