Starting in the Fall of 2008, Volkswagen's Jetta and Jetta SportWagen TDI Clean Diesels will run on ultra-low sulfur fuel. Ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel has 95% less sulfur than other diesel fuel, radically reducing emissions. It's also available in all 50 states.
TDI Clean Diesels have an anticipated fuel efficiency of mid-50s hwy/mid 40s city. The VW TDI engines will also have advanced emission-capturing technology, which means that what comes out of the tailpipe is much cleaner than diesels of the past.
So will you forfeit power in exchange for doing good? No. The more fuel-friendly Jetta TDI Clean Diesel will deliver big torque, even more than equivalent gas-based engines. And don't forget, the "T" stands for turbocharged.
