Super Bowl to Feature Another Great Ad from Volkswagen

A big announcement was recently revealed by Volkswagen. Surprisngly the announcement is not an all-new model or a redesigned favorite. Even though their recent redesigns have been very popular (2012 Volkswagen Jetta, for example), they've announced an (estimated) $3-million dollar investment in an ad-spot during the most watched television program of the year, the 2012 Super Bowl. After one of last year's commercials from the German automaker garnered more then 45-million hits on Youtube, why wouldn't they go for another one?

Viewers of the Super Bowl weren't the only ones who enjoyed "The Force." Adweek named the Volkswagen commercial one of the best of 2011. We can't say that we are all that surprised either. It's hard to deny the Star Wars nostalgia of a pint-sized Darth Vader trying to use his powers to make his peanut butter and jelly sandwich bend to his will. It's even harder to not find it both humerious and cute when he "successfully" used his Jedi mind tricks to start his father's 2012 Volkswagen Passat.

The other 30-second spot was less heart-warming, but just as intriguing, for sure. The teaser commercial for the New Beetle grabbed our attention and got us excited for the car's long-awaited debut. At the time, the arrival of the 2012 Beetle was in the distant future, and the ad only revealed one thing about it: its silhouette. Now that the new Beetle has started to hit the streets, it's hard to say what the automaker will do with their recently purchased 60-second spot.

There are a few things we do know for sure, though. The success of the Passat can be largely attributed to the success of last year's Super Bowl ad. In fact, in the first two months after it hit the market, the sedan logged more sales than it did in all of 2010. We also know that the all-new Beetle will be the star of this year's 60-second commercial. That said, we're pretty certain that sales of the redesigned Beetle will jump shortly after Super Bowl XLVI on February 5th.

Even so, we certainly have a lot of questions for Vee-Dub. Will it be Star Wars themed? Is that adorable kid coming back? How about his dog? Either way, we know how fantastic the 2012 Beetle is, so the commercial is sure to be a hit.
