Much acclaim has surrounded the unveiling of the 2018 Volkswagen Arteon, but the ways it raises the practical and styling bar are only the beginning of this upscale midsize hatchback. While we wait for powertrain details, we’re learning more about the innovative semi-autonomous driving and safety technology the Arteon will offer, such as Emergency Assist 2.0.

This system works by employing four already-known Volkswagen safety systems—Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane, Side, and Park assist. If a driver loses consciousness behind the wheel, the system first tries to rouse them with sound and visual alerts, and then engages the hazard lights and steers the car to the side of the road to bring it to a stop. The aforementioned safety systems help Emergency Assist perform these maneuvers: Park and Lane Assist steers the car while keeping an eye on the lanes, while Side Assist and Active Cruise Control make sure no other cars are in your way.

We look forward to seeing this new system in action. If you want to explore the models we offer at our Volkswagen dealership in Myrtle Beach, SC, contact us at your convenience.
