The wait for the 2018 Volkswagen Arteon--set to arrive in dealerships next year—is already excruciating. Combining a coupe’s form with a hatchback’s functionality, and representing a more premium take on the midsize sedan, it’s a great successor to the CC. But what we really can’t wait to learn about is how it drives.

That question was answered by Car and Driver, who recently took the new Arteon for a spin down in South Africa. The pre-production prototype offered more than just a primer on the driving experience for Volkswagen’s new upscale midsizer, but what it might be to live with (a rarity). In their review, the Arteon’s impeccable driving manners, comforting steering feel, and plush suspension. With that level of confidence, plus a competent base turbocharged four-cylinder with around 270 horses on tap, we can only surmise it will be a joy to drive and own when it arrives.

Now, we wait. When we learn more about this impressive coupe-hatch-sedan, we’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, if you have a pressing need for a new vehicle, contact our Volkswagen dealership in Myrtle Beach, SC to get the ball rolling.
